The Winter Patrol program is winding down for another season.  Bett and Sandy McPhee will be doing their last cottage inspections around mid May.  We thank them very much for their dedication in helping to keep our cottages safe and look forward to working with them again next winter.

Please read the letter from the SCOI Executive in response to this year's large service fee increase. It is available here.

The Saugeen Band is now charging a $3.00 fee for people walking or riding bicycles onto the beach at the manned booth entrances. Cottagers may show their 2011 landfill card in lieu of this payment. This card was mailed to all cottagers who paid their service fees.

The 2012 Membership Form is available here. Please be sure to complete and return it by July 1, 2012

Beach Grass Update

Last fall, the Works Department sprayed the Phragmites  grass on the beach at French Bay in an attempt to control the spread  of this invasive alien grass.    This is a first step in a process that will very likely take many years.

The director team will continue to monitor the grass and keep in contact with the Band regarding the control of Phragmites.

Cottagers directly on the beach are encouraged to cut the invasive beach grass on or near their lots.  Please make sure you bag or burn the cut grass after cutting.  Failure to do so will facilitate the spread of the grass and do more harm than good.

The Friends of Sauble Beach website contains a wealth of information.

The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation has provided us with a helpful write-up that can be viewed here.

Annual General Meetings 2012

Mark your calendar! The FBBA Annual General Meeting will be held at the South Sauble Community Church on Saturday August 18th at 10:00 a.m.

The SCOI annual meeting will be held on Saturday Sept. 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Amabel United Church.

Don't Feed the Bears

Please put out your garbage the morning of garbage pickup, or drop it off at the dump on your way home.

The MNR recommends taking down any birdfeeders as they attract bears.

Keep the lid on your BBQ to avoid attracting bears.

You can purchase a bear-proof garbage bin from TyeDee Bin.
